It is our pleasure to introduce a monthly profile of one of our members….Johanna has been working very hard and has stepped up her game in recent months, rolling in the door most mornings for the 6am classes before her busy work day…somedays working two jobs and up to 16 hours! Johanna is a pleasure to have at the gym….she is a quiet fighter and we can see the huge improvements in her strength and movement daily.
Johanna is CrossFit….
Get to know a little bit about Johanna below and please join us in congratulating her for her commitment and focus…and for just being so damn nice! We are working on awakening that inner ninja…I’ve seen glimpses….
1. What do you do for a living?
I am a full time preschool teacher at Head Start Early Years center, as well as a part time waitress.
2. How did you get involved in CrossFit and how long have you been CrossFitting?
I began my CrossFit journey June 1 of 2013. I became involved in CrossFit having heard great reviews from my family (Steph and Mike C ) and thought there had to be something to this, and to this day would have to say it was one of my best decisions I’ve made for myself.
3. What are some of your goals in doing CrossFit?
In the beginning when I was first asked this question I was like a deer in headlights lol, my main thought was just to get through the workout, now I have many goals to achieve, to become stronger, and faster and my main goal for this calendar year is to compete in my first competition.
4.Biggest challenges and rewards of coming to the gym?
The biggest challenge for me was not counting myself out before I even began the workout and overcoming my shyness. The reward of coming to the gym is increasing my self confidence in knowing that I may not always get it right in the beginning but knowing I’m getting closer than I was the day before. This was made possible from the welcoming and supportive community of coaches and members of the CrossFit family.
5. Favorite workout or movement?
My favorite movement is the deadlift, It makes me feel strong 🙂
6. Least favorite workout or movement?
I’m just going to be honest….burpees and wall balls ugggg
7. Advice to someone new considering starting?
My advice to someone new would be this “Just do it” it was the best piece of advice given to me (thank you Steph C.) Its like that saying “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great”. So for anyone new stop worrying and just join the rest of us and “Just do it ”
8. Favorite music/song to CF to?
As far as music goes, anything loud enough to cover my curse words, I am a preschool teacher and by the code we are never to swear 😀
9. Anything else you would like to add?
I would like to say to everyone in the Crossfit community “Thank you”. Thank you for making me feel welcomed and a part of a community and supporting my achievements and encouraging me when the road became tough and helping me to see even the small forward steps were achievements. Challenging me, even when I didn’t think I could do it and making me see I could. and helping me build my self confidence I didn’t know I possessed. Crossfit Charlottetown is not just an organization, Its a family who supports its members and helps them to become successful and I for one am so blessed to be a part of such a wonderful group of people so again Thank you 🙂
