On this, his second anniversary of starting CrossFit, we are profiling Robert MaCKinnon for your reading pleasure! Robert has made tremendous improvements in his fitness since having started CrossFit and is a true barbell lover. He is a pleasure to coach and has zero quit in him. A true Habs fan, Robert enjoys a good session of chirping back and forth and has added greatly to our overall community of friendship. A proud dad, husband and great friend to many, Robert has squarely added “CrossFitter” to his list of proud accomplishments! I add this picture because it says so much…Robert conquering an insane workout. We couldnt be more proud. Happy Anniversary Robert, may the burpee odds forever be in your favor!
1. What do you do for a living?
I am a senior account executive for iWave Information Systems. We sell research software to nonprofits.
2. How did you get involved in CrossFit and how long have you been CrossFitting?
I have been doing Crossfit for 2 years. I was fairly active in sports till my early 20’s. I was sitting at work in Dec’12 and discussing with a couple of coworkers what to do about getting healthy and Active. My boss Gerry Lawless mentioned Crossfit and I signed up for Fundamentals in January 2013 and was instantly hooked.
3. What are some of your goals in doing CrossFit?
My basic goal is to get healthier and lose weight. Crossfit goals are to be able to eventually do pull-ups and Toes to Bar.
4. Biggest challenges and rewards of coming to the gym?
Biggest challenge is the flippydippystuff, pull-ups and burpees, mountain climbers for example; the great thing though is all our workouts can be scaled to your abilities. The biggest rewards are the community, the amazing friendships made, seeing some amazing athletes and the health benefits from Crossfit; I have lost almost 100 pounds since joining. Being able to scale and modify workouts is huge; even after 2 years I still need to do that with some movements but that is what the Crossfit journey is all about, improving and working on those Goats . I have really enjoyed the barbell work. The community at Crossfit Charlottetown is so supportive and encouraging that it makes showing up easy.
5. Any results you would care to share?
Some of my favorite results were being able to complete two 5K races, finish open workout 14.5, compete in a Crossfit completion and getting my Grace time down under 4 minutes.
6. Favorite workout or movement?
Backsquats, clean and jerk, push press, basically anything with a barbell.
7. Least favorite workout or movement?
Not a huge fan of burpees or running. I do plan to try another 5K this year though.

Only thing to add is that I look forward to continuing to improve and witnessing others journeys. There are no egos at Crossfit Charlottetown. If you show up and put the time in you will succeed .
