It’s our pleasure to have you get to know Jenn a little better. Quiet and very determined, Jenn has been a pleasure to have in class and is a very hard worker. Admitidely intimidated at first, Jenn stuck to her own game plan and has made huge improvements in her capacity and particularly in her form. She is a regular subscriber to squat therapy and it is showing! Jenn recently ran a personal best 5k and has been crushing the many running WODs that have frequented the white board as of late. Jenn is fabulous role model for the many kids she teaches and volunteer coaches. We are very glad to have her as part of our CFC family!
1. What do you do for a living?
I am a teacher and I am currently teaching Jr. Kindergarten at Campus Kids at UPEI.
2. How did you get involved in CrossFit and how long have you been CrossFitting?
I got involved with Crossfit while I was coaching basketball this past season and my fellow coach, Steve Gamester, kept going on about it, how awesome it was, and how I’d like it. He must have sent me 3 or 4 invites to different training camps before I was brave enough to sign up for one. I completed my training camp at the end of April and am in my third month of CrossFitting!
3. What are some of your goals in doing CrossFit?
My main Crossfit goal is to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle, and get stronger doing it! Other goals would be to improve my push-ups and to keep pushing myself on ring rows so that some day I can do a pull up! Another goal I have is to do “Murph” next July with my uncle for his 50th birthday!
4. Biggest challenges and rewards of coming to the gym?
My biggest challenge going to the gym was physically getting out of my car and walking in the door. I had some serious butterflies happening. I still get intimidated sometimes, but I just remind myself that I’m trying to better myself, my time and my weights, and not trying to keep up with others working around me because they have their own challenges and goals for themselves on any given day. The rewards for walking in the door are that I have gotten stronger already! I took the advice and wrote down some numbers from when I just started and already I have seen a difference. I also feel so proud when I leave after a tough WOD. I often look at the board and think “yea, that’s not happening” and when I finish it, it’s the best feeling!!
5. Favorite workout or movement?
I like doing the strength components, clean & jerks and back squats and trying to add weight each time.
My favorite workout was Deck of Cards actually, I just remember thinking it was IMPOSSIBLE (and crazy) for two people to do that. I loved the atmosphere of it and just not even being able to think about what you were doing next, just getting down and doing it because your partner was.
6. Least favorite workout or movement?
I struggle with push-ups, and not a fan of mountain climbers. I also don’t overly enjoy thrusters.
7. Favorite music/song to CF to?
Anything loud works for me!
8. Anything else you would like to add?
I know that when I was first creeping Crossfit Charlottetown, I read lots about the community and I thought, yea yea that’s great, but its just SO true! It made coming to my first few WODs a lot easier, and still helps now! The support is amazing and I really feel like part of a team when everyone is picking away at a WOD together.
I also need to say something about the coaches, I’m pretty sure that Charlottetown won the coach lottery with you all! Thank you SOO much!!
