Our pleasure to introduce Jill! A fun and competitive personality who has made tremendous gains and who has really come out of her shell as of late;) Jill was an integral force in forming the 2015 marathon relay team and resorted to the calling out technique to get folks to sign up! Jill has been pushing herself outside that comfort bubble and working technique, form and mobility and is achieving great results, including putting herself out there in her first competition…The Island Throwdown.
1.What do you do for a living?
I am a Correctional Officer at the Provincial Correctional Center
2. How did you get involved in CrossFit and how long have you been CrossFitting?
I have had some friends that were doing it for a while and they finally convinced me to try it out. In February, I will be Crossfitting for a year. One of the best decisions I have made 🙂
3. What are some of your goals in doing CrossFit?
One of my main goals is to be able to do a push up of any kind. I would love to eventually be able to do a handstand push up as well. Though, I will have to admit that I do find it really intimidating to even kick myself up into a handstand against the wall lol. I am working on it!! It’s all about baby steps!!!
4. Biggest challenges and rewards of coming to the gym?
One of the biggest challenges I have is with myself. I found that I really had to leave my ego at the door. Your mind will tell you to quit long before your body will, so it is all about pushing through. Crossfit has really push me to my limits and I have done things that I have never thought that I could do. That is what I find so rewarding. I find with Crossfit, you are always seeing results. It might not be everyday but you find something that you are struggling with and you keep working at it. the results may be big or small but at least they are always there!! The Crossfit Community is probably the biggest reward. I find everyone so welcoming and encouraging.
5. Any results you would care to share?
As I said, I find that I see results all the time. From lifting weights, to running and just overall feeling healthy and strong. For me, one of my greatest moments was putting over 100lbs over my head. To me, that is some heavy weight and I found it empowering and I was really proud of myself. I also did my first competition at the end of November and coming into the gym, I said that I didn’t want to compete but I am so happy that I did. What a high!!
6. Favorite workout or movement?
Any workout that involves running I love!! I also really enjoy doing push jerks and deadlifts because it makes me feel strong ( cheesy i know 🙂 ). However, my all time favourite workout was that we did was the Deck of Cards. Any workout that I can just shut my brain off and go, I like. And since we did that workout with a partner, we were able to have some fun and push each other.
7. Least favorite workout or movement?
My least favourite workout is probably Fran but that is because I can’t do a pull up (YET!!) ad let’s face it, no one really likes thrusters either. Oh, and burpees. Especially birthday burpees!! No one wants to do a whack of burpees after and WOD.
8. Favorite music/song to CF to?
I think that I might be the only one that likes listening to country while I workout 🙂
But, as long as the music is loud and has a good beat, I can workout to just about anything.
9. Anything else you would like to add?
I am so happy that I finally joined!! The coaches at CFC are fantastic and are really supportive. I can’t stress that enough!! As I mentioned, the community is really great too. It’s so refreshing to go into a place and feel that everyone wants you to succeed to your best and you want the same for everyone else!!
