I completed fundamentals in September 2009 and quickly became addicted to CrossFit. Living in two provinces, I am a member at CrossFit gyms in Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island. Every vacation is centered on opportunites to experience other CrossFit gyms and meet other CrossFit members. CrossFit offers fantastic coaching, a great community of people and exceptional results.
I am always excited about introducing new people to CrossFit and the immediate benefits that it provides. CrossFit really is a way of life for myself and my family.

When I was first introduced to CrossFit in November of 2006 I was already a self described “gym rat”, and was at that time in the best shape of my life. I was quickly humbled and realized just how much my overall physical fitness was lacking. Since then I have continued to improve and increase my capacity and still see regular improvements in my fitness. In short, my so called “best shape of my life” before CrossFit compared to after, would be like comparing someone crawling the 100 meter dash to someone sprinting the 100 meter dash. In December of 2012 I took the long overdue plunge and completed my CrossFit Level 1 Training Certification so I could give back to others that which I am so passionate about.

Sport has been a central part of my life since I was a young child. Having two active parents and growing up in a home where participating in sport was not an option but a necessity, sport became a critical part of my life. After leaving university and competitive sport behind, I turned my need for physical activity into formal exercise programs. It was not until I found crossfit that I, as an adult, was able to blend my competitive energy and need for physical fitness together.

Crossfit has given me back the opportunity to feel the excitement of competing with myself through challenging and fun workouts. Crossfit is my playground where I get a chance to hang out and work out with the greatest people on Earth. I have not looked back since completing fundamentals in 2009. I am hooked on crossfit.

CrossFit is my passion. Pure and simple.
It has grown to be a big part of my life over the past 10 years of practicing, coaching and competing. I love the energy and buzz of big fun classes as we all strive to be a tad bit better than we were yesterday. Nothing makes me more proud than seeing real life changes in athlete’s lifestyle, health, and happiness and doing things they once thought were unachievable. Let’s train.play and thrive.

I started Crossfitting in 2010, after moving back to PEI for work. I was lucky enough to have a new found boss, coach Cheryl, who encouraged me to give it a shot. I was instantly hooked on the activity and community the sport provided. I have always been an active person using hockey, fastball, soccer, running, cycling and gym time to stay fit. I use Crossfit to stay in shape, increase my physical fitness level and some days to wash away the day.

Aside from continually pushing myself with each workout my biggest enjoyment comes from helping others grow and develop in the sport. The biggest challenge any of us faced in the sport was getting in the door for the first time. Once in the coaches and the community are the reason to stay. We workout together, sweat together and laugh together…which is what makes it such a special experience.

I am a physiotherapist at Bodyworks in Charlottetown and have been doing CrossFit since 2008. As an endurance athlete, I have competed in several marathons and Ironman triathlons. CrossFit has played a significant role in the way I prepare for long distance events. I have several CrossFit certifications and have practiced Iyengar Yoga for ten years and has been employing movement and mobility based exercises in my physiotherapy practice since its inception.

Corena is Crossfit Charlottetown’s mobility guru and will be helping us all be better CrossFitters through increased flexibility and mobility.

CrossFit Level 1 Trainer (CF-L1)

I completed Crossfit fundamentals in October 2014 after a bit of a push from owners and coaches Mary Lynn and Greg and it has all been a blur from that point on! Sports,  including hockey and baseball were an important aspect of my life growing up, always using these sports to feed my competitive soul. Crossfit might unsettle some because it is a individual sport, but this is my favourite thing about Crossfit! Crossfit lets you find your personal limits by pushing yourself every time you step through the door, all while having an awesome support team around you when you train.

As a coach I like to keep things fresh with different drills to help members excel with a certain movement or WOD. There is nothing better after an hour session when you see members leaving with a smile on their face because they achieved something they never thought was possible.

CrossFit is a huge part of my life and it is no secret that I try to engage everyone around me in the CrossFit community because I want everyone to experience the same excitement for working out that I do. I was a competitive gymnast for 10 years and a competitive gymnastics coach and judge for 16 years. When I retired from gymnastics, I missed feeling like an athlete. I went to the gym regularly and tried a number of different fitness classes but nothing replaced the competitive rush of training for something and working toward specific goals until I found CrossFit. I was hooked from the moment I walked through the door and experienced the community support and friendly atmosphere that IS CrossFit. Since then I have competed in a number of CrossFit competitions and have improved my strength and fitness greatly, thanks to great coaching and programming. Partner and Team WODs and competitions will always be my favorite because I am motivated and inspired by others.

I was involved in CrossFit for six years before deciding to become a trainer. After having to give up coaching gymnastics due to professional commitments, I greatly missed helping others achieve their goals. There is nothing more rewarding than helping someone else reach a new PR or get a new skill. Coaching CrossFit at CrossFit Charlottetown is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I am surrounded by positive, fun, energetic people every day and I get to be a part of their CrossFit experience.
